They still have 32 more games to play. We don’t know what will happen in between.
But it looks like it’s a toss-up. The first baseman’s Golden Glove is almost decided. Austin Dean of the LG Twins is the favorite to become the first LG foreign player to win the Golden Glove.
Austin has been one of the most dominant performers at first base this season. Over the course of a month, the bats of his competitors will have to go crazy to even be in contention. At this point, there is little chance of an upset.스포츠토토
Through four days and 109 games, Austin is batting 3-for-4 with 132 hits, 18 home runs, and 81 RBIs. He has a .374 on-base percentage and a .505 slugging percentage for an OPS of .879. He ranks ninth in hits, fourth in doubles, tied for third in home runs, second in RBI, third in on-base percentage, and sixth in OPS. He is challenging for the batting title. The top spot is held by Hanwha Eagles’ Noh Si-hwan, who has 90 RBIs, nine behind Austin. However, Noh will miss about 15 games due to his participation in the Asian Games. In the meantime, Austin could pull off the upset. If Austin wins the batting title, he will become the first LG batsman to win the title.
Austin’s main competition is Yang Seok-hwan of the Doosan Bears, Park Byung-ho of KT Wiz, and Chae Eun-sung of Hanwha. Yang is batting .328 with a .448 on-base percentage and a .776 OPS with 109 hits, 17 home runs, and 64 RBIs. Park Byung-ho, who repeated as home run king last year and also won the Golden Glove, has been on par with Yang this year. 2-for-7 with 91 hits, 13 home runs, and 62 RBIs. He has a .339 on-base percentage, a .413 slugging percentage, and a .752 OPS. Park Byung-ho, who was recently sidelined with a calf injury, has been batting leadoff lately. Chae Eun-sung started the year on fire, but faded in July and August. He’s batting 2-for-6 with 110 hits, 15 home runs, 61 RBIs, a .350 on-base percentage, a .418 slugging percentage, and a .768 OPS. All three are well ahead of Austin in every category.
LG hasn’t had a single foreign Golden Glove winner, pitcher or catcher, since implementing the foreign player program. If Austin wins, it would be the first time in history. The last LG first baseman to win a Golden Glove was Seo Yong-bin in 1994. That’s the last time LG won the title, so there’s a good chance LG will win the Golden Glove for the first time in 29 years. Coincidentally, LG is playing for its first regular season title in 29 years.
With just over a month left in the regular season, will there be a last-minute upset or will it be Austin’s ride? Right now, the odds are very much in Austin’s favor.
