A masterpiece defense worthy of the major leagues! A super catch by the 163cm KBO’s shortest player, Jung Soo-bin… A commentator who was a national outfielder also praised the “goosebump-inducing defense.”

Samsung Lions outfielder Kim Sung-yoon pulled off a jaw-dropping defensive play. He also made a highlight-reel-worthy super catch to lighten the load on Choi Ha-neul’s shoulders on the mound.

Kim started in right field for the second game of a doubleheader against Doosan at Jamsil Stadium on Sept. 9.

Tied 0-0, Doosan attacked in the bottom of the third inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Jung Soo-bin pulled a four-pitch fastball (134 km/h) hard on a 2B-1S pitch from Samsung starter Choi Ha-neul. The ball sailed straight into the right-field corner.스포츠토토

Kim sprinted more than 20 meters to catch it and made a jumping catch that hit the top of the fence. The Doosan bench requested a video review, but the call was not overturned.

KBSN Sports commentator Naji Wan, a former national outfielder, who commentated on the game, said, “Wow, that was a goosebump-inducing catch. I thought it was a home run. It was a super catch, and it helped Choi Ha-neul, the starter.”

Meanwhile, Kim Sung-yoon is considered one of Samsung’s biggest hits in the second half of the year. Kim joined Samsung in 2017 after graduating from Pohang University, but until last year, he was just another prospect bouncing between the first and second teams. This year, his growth has been remarkable, to the point where it could be said that he has ‘opened his eyes to baseball’.

In 88 games prior to today’s game, he was batting .197 (65-for-197) with two home runs, 25 RBIs, 36 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases. In the second half of the year, he’s been at his best, batting .309 (50-for-128) with two home runs, 18 RBIs, 25 runs scored, and 10 doubles.
